Medical Term of the Day

Postinfectious glomerulonephritis
Glomerulonephritis following infection, usually by
group A streptococci, seen mainly in children,
adolescents, and young adults; characteristics include
onset 10 days or more after the infection, oliguria,
and hematuria, often with edema, hypertension,
and circulatory congestion that can be resolved by
diuresis. Serious cases sometimes lead to
renal failure.


George Washington & Medicine
